LOCATION
The campus of HELP is located in New Paltz, New York, a peaceful, friendly town with a population of 6,000. At the same time, New Paltz is approximately 1.5 hours from the excitement of New York City. The town of New Paltz is known for its natural beauty. It is surrounded by the Shawangunk and Catskill Mountains, with apple orchards and farms within walking distance of campus. The town also has an active social life, with many restaurants, cafes and pubs that are popular with students.
PROGRAM & CURRICULUM
Full-time ESL study at HELP is available at four levels of instruction in skills that are integrated and designed to emphasize practical usage of the language. There are also cultural activities and field trips, tutors, a state-of-the-art language learning center, and individualized mentoring for every student.
The curriculum includes four levels of instruction, each with distinctive linguistic and cultural emphases.
Four distinct classes are offered to emphasize the various skills of ESL.
In addition, weekly cultural activities and field trips are designed to enrich the student's American experience. Individual tutors are provided for each student to enhance the learning environment and work on specific instructional needs. A state-of-the-art language/computer lab also provides students with the benefit of careful practice and individualized assessment.
Students who reach the Advanced and Academic Purposes levels may enroll in academic classes at SUNY New Paltz while enrolled in HELP.
Teachers also provide individual mentoring for every student so that the learning experience proceeds naturally, both in and out of the classroom.
STUDENTS & FACULTY
Hundreds of students from around the world have learned English at the Haggerty English Language Program (HELP). For more than 15 years, students have come to HELP to meet their educational, professional, and personal goals. HELP has an established reputation for excellent teachers, innovative language teaching, and small classes where students receive individual attention. The program also emphasizes cultural exchange alongside of academic study. In addition, HELP has an advanced multi-media language learning center with audio, video, and computer adapted language instruction designed to help you reach your language goals.
All of the instructors at HELP have graduate degrees in Teaching English as a Second Language or related fields, as well as extensive teaching experience. Many of our instructors present at local and national conferences in their area of expertise, and several have won awards for teaching and scholarship

HELP is one of only 60 of over 400 intensive English programs to be accepted for membership in UCIEP (University Consortium Of Intensive English Programs). HELP has also endorsed the Core Standards of TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages).
